Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Offers Support to Families Affected by Landslide in Jammu and Kashmir

Compassion for Victims of the Landslide

On Wednesday, Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, expressed his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in a landslide along the Vaishno Devi pilgrimage route in the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir. He announced a financial aid of four lakh rupees for each family of the deceased.

According to a statement released by the state government, the Chief Minister confirmed that all families of the deceased pilgrims, who were residents of Uttar Pradesh, would receive this monetary assistance. He also instructed officials to ensure that the bodies of the victims are transported back to their native places in Uttar Pradesh as soon as possible.

While it has been confirmed that some of the deceased were residents of Uttar Pradesh, the exact number of state residents involved in this tragedy remains unclear. Sources indicate that among those who perished were a newlywed woman from Baghpat district and her elder sister, with three other family members sustaining serious injuries.

The deceased have been identified as Chandni (23), the wife of Mayank Goyal from Khekra, and her elder sister Neera (36). The injured include Mayank, Neera's husband Amit (40), and their 10-year-old daughter Vidhi. Family members shared that Mayank and Chandni had tied the knot in April of this year.

The family had set off for the temple by train on August 25. They were returning after their visit when a sudden landslide caused massive boulders to fall on them. Anil Goyal, Mayank's uncle, informed local media that they learned about the accident through a hospital staff member who contacted them using Mayank's phone. The family rushed to Jammu immediately after receiving the news.

Neera, a resident of Ghaziabad, was married to jeweler Amit from Meerut. Her father-in-law Ashok mentioned that when they couldn't reach her late into the night, they feared something was wrong. The following morning, his son's call confirmed their worst fears.

According to officials in Jammu and Kashmir, the death toll from the landslide, triggered by heavy rainfall on Tuesday afternoon, has risen to 34, with at least 20 others injured. The injured are currently receiving treatment at a hospital in Jammu, and arrangements are being made to send the bodies back home.
